On my continuing quest to fish new lakes, I tried Summit today. Only five fishing boats all morning with light breezes until about 1000. Lots of drive-bys from 30' to 38' until one lone 12" koke decided to stick.

Summit is 511 acres, about half the size of American and just as deep. Some spots hit 99' deep. Most of the meter marks were in 45' to 60' of water along the south shore as you leave the newly remodeled WDFW launch (two new 12' concrete ramps and upgraded bathrooms). Also plenty of shore fishing/family beach area.

Locals told me they have been catching some nice fat bows. One guy said the meat was really red and figured they are carry-overs that have gone "native". One guy jigs 20"+ bows near the bottom in 90' of water. This is one clean, clear lake.

Not in the pic, but I used a clown mini-dodger, garlic gel scent, a purple glow hoochie with a silver spinner and red fire corn and gulp maggots.

Good for you! Getting on to new lakes. I got my biggest rainbow there last year at 17 inches. I found the kokanee equivalent to American in size and it took awhile to get a limit.

i grew up fishing this lake for kokes, with my mom and step dad. back then, in the late seventies, early eightys, the kokes all averaged like 14.5 inches. the limit was 16, and chumming was permitted. the lake has copepods that some years raise cane with the kokes. 12 inches is on the small side, for this lake. the used to use this lake, for gathering spawners, and dumping the fry in all our koke lakes. there used to be some large cutts in this lake. it can get a bit breezy here. i have had better luck here, with just a hook and corn behind the dodger. my old magic depth, for the rigger, is 45'. shame you only got the one. generally, i kill em on this lake. a mid may bite here, can be awsome!
