My son and I hit the North end of Coeur d'Alene lake Saturday morning. It was brisk, but the sun was out and very little wind (rare for CDA lake). We launched out of Higgins at about 8:30 - the parking lot was almost full. We were marking a bunch fish right off the launch so we started trolling as we headed West. Surface temp was 57 degrees. He had a hit and missed 'em. I cautioned him again about the little Kokes soft mouths - he landed the next two - I was still getting my set up and rigger ready. My son was using a small rainbow dodger with a bright pink mini-squid. I was using a red glow sling blade dodger and a double whammy wedding ring. We got into them several times with constant action and 2 doubles. After a lul around 10:00 AM, we switched to silver sling blades and pink Apexes - the bites picked up as soon as we switched. He used pink corn and I used yellow - pink seemed a bit better early and yellow was much better later. We headed back about 11:45 with 18 in the boat (all under 11" and still silver). Early the biter were around 35 ft down, and by about noon they were at 45 ft. The launch was very busy with ski boats (the main downtown launch might be closed due to construction). All in all a very nice day - fishing with my son (the one that doesn't normally go fishing), getting some kokes for the smoker, and a beautiful day on the lake.
