I've been wanting to hit Rattlesnake in the float tube for some time now. It seems like the reports have been showing larger fish in the past couple years.
I put the tube in the water about 10:30 AM. I had two rods, one rigged with a leech, and one with a nymph. I puttered from the launch going South towards far end of the lake. Not until I got on the phone did a rod go off, and hands were full. In the first stretch I had a couple of missed hits. Then I switched things around a bit. Tried a bead headed woolly black woolly bugger with some gold strands. Couple hits there as well, but all missed fish.
Eventually I picked up two fish on some very small bead headed thing, that usually is fished as a dropper behind a nymph in the rivers.
Then at some point I through on the dry fly seen in the pic. I am pretty weak on the names of most of my flies, outside of leeches and woolly buggers. All I did was slowly kick around the lake with the dry fly on. Half the time it was prob. just under the surface actually. Once this fly went on, it was non stop action and fish to the toon. I think I boated/released 12 fish in 1 hour. All ranging from 10-13" I did have one that peeled drag out and def. was a larger fish. I got him 6' from my hand, when it came undone. Would have liked to have seen that fish. It was not the typical, just reel it in fish. He ran left to right, and repeat, etc.
Very foggy, could not see the shore mostly. Couple other toons and a aluminum boat on the water.
Most active day of fishing I had all summer.
