Went to Lake B. to target some of the Fall and Winter Cutthroat that move into the lake from Lake Washington. Arrived at about 7:00 AM, lines in the water by 7:15. Temp at outset was a chilly 37 degrees, not a breeze and the lake a flat calm. Water temp off the pier, at 10' was 54 degrees, about optimum now for trout. Water was somewhat stained, and water level pretty high due to recent rains... conditions that I have found make fishing here more difficult.
Began fishing nightcrawlers in a couple different configurations, then when light enough, went to spin-casting an assortment of small spoons. No bites on 'crawlers, and no hits on spoons, so changed up one rod to Power Eggs (fl. orange), hoping to draw some interest from Rainbows... bingo! About 9:00 a strong, persistent and chilly wind began to blow out of the south, and a heavy overcast blew in. About 11:00 I had my first hit, and reeled in a feisty, 12" Rainbow... twenty minutes later, brought in another, 11 1/2" 'Bow. A couple of bites in the early afternoon, but nothing else until just about 3:00, then I landed my third, this one another 12"'er. Left the lake at 4:00.
Was joined at various times throughout the day by 12 or 13 other fishermen, who stayed varying lengths of time, but mine were the only fish I saw caught (by humans... saw a Cormorant snag one trout, and a Belted Kingfisher got a small one... looked like a bass... ).
Always have a great time fishing this lake... lots of avian activity... identified 7 species of duck, saw the resident eagle chase another out of his territory, and watched a family of Otters (4) fish their way down the lake. Should be better fishing when the water level drops a bit, and the cooler weather is here to stay. PTL!
