Decided to bring in the New Year right and take a trip to Rufus Woods for some winter triploid action. Day one was a total bust. 3 hours and not a single bite. Talked to several other fishers and there did not seem to be many fish caught. Consensus was very slow fishing.
Day two was a different story. My experience with this lake is that is can be stone cold one day and hot the next. 3 hours of fishing, 4 nice triploids, 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6.5 lbs (plus two smaller fished that were released to grow up). We fished both days on the Okanagan side of the lake from the state park to just past pump station #1. On day one we used our usual wedding rings and hoochies to no avail. On day two we switched to copper/orange needlefish. All fishing was done off downriggers and all fish were caught at about 15 feet with the flasher and lure 165 feet back. The lake was dead calm both days with fog in the morning. Water temp was 41 degrees and outside temp was 27 to 34 degrees. I rated this a 4 due to the day one skunking.
