Got to Fourth at about 7:00 this mornings we were the first car in the parking lot. A buddy and I were hoping to find open water, so we brought out our shore fishing gear. What we found was very minimal, but the entire north shoreline seems to be somewhat open water. Well anyway, we started they day plunking powerbait, and we basically had to break it through a thin layer of ice.
After plenty of missed bites, I finally landed about a 6 inch bow. Went back to swim another day. About an hour later, I hooked into a brute. She went about 23 inches, but didn't get a weight. Then my buddy caught a little 12 inch bow, but it didn't have a tail! Gone, completely chewed off or something.. But that was all for the rest of the day. We got pretty cold, and the ice doesn't seem to thick. But there were people fishing on the ice

We figured it must have been a hatchery defect. @iwillfish
