Had a great time fly fishing on Ft. Lewis the ponds and stream I fish were just loaded with cuts had to pull the fly away to keep from catching so many, clear water could see them swimming around, the pond has almost doubled since last week so fish are a little more spread out but more willing to bite yesterday than last week, The wind and rain did not seem to be a factor as a matter of fact it was better when it blew hard and rained even harder fish were feeding everywhere should have brought my float tube will next time. So this fish times twenty or so just one after another and the good thing is it will last until spring when it gets even better! Pink lady fly did the trick works on all species Bass, Crappie, rainbows, good all around fly for fresh water. Good fishing and pack out what u pack in , kind disappointing to see fisherman trash the same areas they fish at just what the heck is on these guys minds when they do that is beyond me maybe if we shove it down there throats they would realize things could die from choking on the trash. So give a hoot don't pollute.

I'm stationed on JBLM. I've never fished there except the nisqually. I'd love to get out and get the 5wt some exercise. Hit me up if you want to fish sometime. Sounds like a great day on the water!

I just purchasesd my first fly rod and would love to get into a fish. Are there cutties going into the hatchery at chambers? Or are you fishing for them somewhere besides there?

Sthrcave If you have fished the tank bridge on the nis then at the end on ft lewis side is a creek feeding in to nis usually it has cuts in it otherwise start going upstream right hand side of artillery range where creek goes under road on up to chambers gonna have to do some walking in but the cuts are in the bigger pools and some small ponds before chambers by artillery range . I go when ever mostly weekends thinking about using my float tube this time also would go if you are willing.
Millie12 I know for a fact some old guy I met on the nis just talking fishing said he would catch the cuts out of the nisq and drop them a few steps across the road that I mentioned above athe the tank bridge on ft lewis side at end of road where muck creek feeds into the nisq he would catch the cuts and put them in that creek but at times when the creek is up and the river then the cuts could get up that way also so they are natives I am not sure they stock the cuts into chambers believe it is a natural run. I believe they migrate in and out of that creek and nisq cause some years when the water is low they get stuck in chambers some stay or when levels get higher then they leave but the creek hardly dries up so they could migrate all year long. Chambers is pretty big with all the rain so fish a spread out better off trying little ponds and creek pools but involves lots of hiking and creek is high so limited access not to mention bank drop-offs that go from ankle deep to chest in one step and watch ot for the beaver cuts, trails through grass sometimes don't seem them goes from knee deep to chest in one step, mostly muck bottom so if u have float tube or small boat is easier access to the fish,

Obryan 216 actually a guy showed me his version on Swafford pond and it is also different then the Empire Fly Fishing Club's version. I use pink embossing yarn with a red tread wrap tail to head, a red fork tail and dark brown elk hair tied in at tail and head so looks like wings folded back on top. Far from the empire version but that is what he called it and that is what I ve used ever since, later in the year towards summer I sometimes eliminate the brown hair on top and still works just as well, and in a bigger version cause fish seem more aggressive and just want to fatten up so during that time it is just fun cause it sometimes is every cast a fish.
