Took the family to Beaver again for a family fishing trip. I arrived ahead of time to launch the boat. I got on the water about 11:40. Started trolling a joined Rapala right off the launch. Caught my first fish 10 minutes later. Took another 10 minutes to scare up the second. Both were dark 9"-10" stockers. My wife and kids showed up about that time, so picked them up and off we went. The weather kept cycling between cold, cloudy, and breezy to sunny and calm. Seemed like the bite was sporadic. We'd get quite a few hits for 15 minutes and then nothing for 20-30 minutes. The weather increasingly got better with the sun staying out for longer periods and the breeze calming. The Rapala continued to produce the fish. I kept swapping out gear on the other two lines we had int he water with zero results. Finally settled on a tried-and-true 50/50 Dick Nite and settled in for the ride as the kids had lost interest. Finally in the last 45 minutes the DN started catching fish and we managed a total of 12 averaged sized stocker trout to take home for dinner with a few more lost before making it to the boat. Quit at 3pm, so spent over three hours on the water. Saw a few caught from the shore anglers, but sounds the like the other boaters were not having much luck. I think if not for the Rapala we'd have quit sooner. All in all it turned out to be a good trip, but patience was required as the fish were few and far between.
