I got to fish this morning with Zack of Northwest Sportfishing on Lake Stevens for kokanee. We started at crack’o’dawn (6am ish anyway) and the bite was on from the git-go. Since I was running the cameras I got to sit back and watch Zack running all four rods, handing fish off… I almost felt a bit guilty. Then I remembered, “wait, he’s a guide, he does this every day with customers, LOL”. I did end up helping, I couldn’t sit and watch. Not really used to Canon manuals but started getting the hang of it.
We did really well fishing shallow, 10-20 feet first thing in the morning. Usual gear, sling blades and hoochie rigs or Mack’s wedding ring in gold. Dick Nite Kokanee DNR scent and a single piece of corn rounded it out. My techniques don’t quite match Zack’s, and neither does my success rate on Stevens. We ended the day with 15 fish ranging 10” to 14 ½”, about half and half in each size range. I’ve never had that much success on Stevens so I’m taking notes.
We got lots of fun footage which I will do my best to have done before the Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby. Thanks Zack for a nice day on the water.
Check out his web site at www.norwestsportfishing.com . He has a super Lake Stevens kokanee special going on so jump on it if you want to learn the lake and techniques.
