Horay, Horay - its the first of May - Hot bass fishing starts today? -- or so I was thinking. About 9 am, fishing solo, I launched my small boat onto Wye Lake. The weather temp was quickly raising to 80 degrees + and the wind was calm at times and only a light breeze between. I had my usual bass arsenal - Jig, Rapala, spinnerbait and crankbait. I fished most of the shoreline without having a strike or seeing a bass. A few trout were rising and there were a few dragon flies. One big trout that looked something like a spawned out chum salmon in the river followed my jig but didn't hit. He was a mess. There were 10s of thousands of small tad poles swimming completely around the lake. I took the camera and shot a bunch of them at the launch ramp where the seemed to be eating on some fish guts. I also saw a turtle on a log soaking up sunrays but he didn't want his photo taken. I also saw an alligator - will attach that photo. At close range he looked quite harmless however. No fish but a completely nice day on the lake. I was the only angler on the lake.
