Took my son out to Silver Lake on Saturday, as I see that they've recently stocked the lake with various sizes of trout. Thought that it may be fun to let him out fish me on a lake that is less than a 20 minute drive down the road.
Got to the lake around 8:00 am, which kind of scared me. I thought we were going to have to wait in line for a spot. However, we were the first ones on the dock. I think it's probably due to the mist and looming rain clouds. Luckily for us the rain held off and there was only a slight breeze. Taking a chance paid off (at least weather wise)!
We got our lines in the water, he on rainbow colored power bait and I on worms. Waiting.... After about 15 minutes another person showed up and got her line in the water. She hooked a small trout that she released back into the water. She hooked her second about 30 minutes later.
After a lot of complaining I decided to change my little guy's bait. I went with power eggs. About that time I hooked into a fish, but didn't realize it until it was at the dock (thought I had hits the weeds again). Got the 13" perch up on the dock, but he had completely swallowed the hook. Had to keep him, as I didn't see the eagles out until later that morning. Sat around for a while longer and the lady next to us caught her third (two keepers).
Around 10:30 or so a third person shows up with his little boys in tow. Not 5 minutes in the water and he hooks into a 2 pound trout using green power eggs. We switched bait one last time, gave it 30 more minutes and decided to call it. Thinking about taking my kayak out there next weekend. Maybe luck will be on my side next time.
