I arrived about seven pm or so planning to fish until dark. This lake is a haven for fat rainbows, but I am no longer challenged by Island county trout. A lot of people don't know that this lake possesses some nice smallmouths in it's abundance of lily pads. I didn't have good luck with top water so I decided to go with the trusty crank bait. After untangling my wonderful level line reel's mess from an eager cast, I tried again to hit my target, the edge of the lily pads and an opening in the milfoil. I reeled in fast trying to dive that thing down as far as possible, about five turns into my retrieve, bam! Finally a hit. I went to set the hook and she came to the surface flapping like crazy not knowing that she already lost my lure. After I realized that I was no longer connected to my catch, all I could do was watch this fish realize it's freedom and disappear
back into it's comfy cover. I then moved from that spot and continued my method along the edge and came up with nothing...Got cold, went home. I have never seen more than one bass caught out of that lake in the same day. But what really counts is I do not have to stray far from home to have a challenging and rewarding fishing trip. There are few people who can say " I caught a nice lone lake bass." Be a man and lose the power bait, This is a money lure lake.
Catch and release, don't litter, stay in school, and no jibba jabba!
