Took Kzoo and another Steelheading buddy out to Stevens for their 1st taste of Kokanee fishing. We were on the water about 6am with around 10 other boats but didn't have any action until 7:30 or so. For the morning the bites were few and far between but eventually were were able to dial in the dodgers lure and depth to get a decent rhythm going. We ended the day with 15 in the box averaging 12-14" and I am guessing 7-10 lost (it's hard for some bass/steelhead guys to get the hang of these soft mouthed Kokes).
We fished until 2 and 50% of our catch (and the largest fish) came after noon.
The majority of our fish were caught between 10-15' and none below 20'.
Cloudy all day, start spitting rain about 1.
Hot dodgers for us were Dick Nite clown and 50/50
As far as lure color it was all over the map. Green, gold, orange, pink, white all got fish.
Something we noticed also, we were running 4 rods, 2 stacked on each DR. The big majority of our fish came off the top port side rod. We even switched rods/setup around and it was still that top port rod that got the action. The only thing we could think of is that my kicker is on the starboard side (or just complete coincidence). Anyone else ever noticed this?
Lastly we got to meet another WaLaker out there. Bassplayer it was good to finally meet you and I am sure we'll be crossing paths again soon!
The pic is the ten I brought home. Kzoo took the 5 biggest ones.
