I've been reading your reports on Sawyer for some time now, and so far it seems that lake has been average production. Does Sawyer ever really heat up? Looks like you get after it often, with good results. I've been looking at hitting Sawyer for a couple of years, but never make it up that way due to Tapps being a mile away. I enjoy reading your reports, keep 'em up!

Sawyer can heat up, but not very often. There doesn't seem to be the 'fall bite' that the experts have talked about for a century now. I always compare the lake to what it was back when I started fishing it 40 years ago. These days IT SUCKS in comparison. But it can still be productive and fun, or I wouldn't fish it. lol These days it's primarily an ok small mouth lake, but back then it was a GREAT Large Mouth fishery.

It started changing in the mid 1990s. Yes it still has BIG Largies and BIG Smallies. My biggest Smallie out of the lake is a 4.65 that I caught Nov. 4, 2013 on the dropshot, and my largest Largie is a 10 pound even May, 1994 on a crankbait. My biggest Largie in 2013 was a 5.11 on a crankbait May 13th. All in different spots on the lake.

A couple years ago I caught what everyone things is the best way to catch a Bass, on topwater, 5-11 Largie on Aug. 22, 2011. Yes it was in another different spot on the lake. lol

And please note the difference between 5.11 and 5-11 as 5.11 means '5 pounds' and 'POINT 11' of another pound, which is less than 2 oz. 5-11 means '5 pounds' and '11 oz'. Between those dates I'd bought a new scale that read in hundredths ( 2 place decimal) of a pound instead of reading in oz. :-)
