I was out there the same days as you. launched at Medimont and hit Cave, Swan and Black Lake. Black lake seemed the best but I still had no luck. Talked with a homeowner on the lake who told me that right where the power pole sticks up at Black lake is a good spot. Said a guy caught a 44 pound pike a few weeks ago and would have been a new record BUT.....the guy did not have a license and F and G took his fish. Also said they shocked a 54 YES!!! 54 pound pike in one of the chain lake but Idaho F and G would not disclose the lake or location. When I came through the channel at entered Black Lake I saw the power pole and tons of baitfish breaking the surface. Must have been a big bass or pike stirring them up. I threw spinner baits, crank baits, fished dead smelt etc... and just had no darn luck at all.

Thanks for the reply. Im new to the chain lakes and the only pike I have caught so far has been at Cave. Friends of mine say Swan is good as well. The report on Black Lake came from a guy who lives on the lake. When you enter the lake from the channel his house is on the right side. Right next to a cabin that is being built. He has a nice place with two bldgs. and a pontoon at his dock. Nice guy. I talked to him and asked him which lake was Swan lake and we broke into a conversation and thats when he told me. If yousee me out there say hello some time. I run a small 14 foot McKee Craft Bay boat (white) like a whaler.
