Banks Lake was as advertised by all we had talked to and gathered our intel. We got 5 boats on the water and all managed to bring home at least 1 keeper. One young fellow, Jerimiah by name, brought home the BIG FISH award. He landed a 28” or so, …a fine Walleye.
This was not an easy proposition. Wm.’s boat landed 21 undersized fish before the 1 keeper, a 22” 6 lb. Walleye. There were other species in the way besides all the dinks and babies….Smallmouth and perch were everywhere.
We never saw Pete but did hear from him at dinner by cell phone. He said he had 6 fish, which, if he was fishing Roosevelt would be fine. Tom and grandson and uncle had 1 each keepers from his boat after landing 40 or more others. Same story for Eddie and Sandi, Chris and Jeff, and William Susan, and Phil.
An excellent day for fishing, the wind came up at 3:00 PM and most left the water. Dinner at 6:00 PM at the La Presa where 10 of us ate.
Location for the keepers was consistently in the Poplar Bay and along the Rose Bush. Surface water temps were in the 60s. Color appeared to be best using Chartreuse, spinners, beads, with slow death hooks and portion of night crawler. Speed was 1.4 to 1.8 mph.
Our thanks to Don Erickson for helping narrow the search for the fish. We will be back again…especially after the dinks grow to harvest size.
