Day two of a 3 day trip. Launched at Mill Bay about 7:00 am. Light breeze, few vehicles in the parking lot. Dropped gear when we reached 45ft of depth. One rod pink crappie tube with white tail, shoe peg corn el-natural (no additional scent). Other rod had a homemade hoochie in pink, with glow paint on the head. I take a Pink Salmon squid, cut it into thirds. Stretch over a cocktail straw, tie into place using fly tying thread. Dip the head into craft paint, followed by glow paint. The home grown hoochie was baited with the same corn.
After about 5 minutes we were in 65ft of water. We dropped the downriggers to 50 and 60ft. Dad hooks up immediately with a 12 inch, skinny Kokanee. Ever hear the saying "don't leave fish to find fish?" I had thoughts of fishing North of Wapato point. Lots of floating debre's up there. Passed one boat with 3 occupants, a hootin and a hollerin. They looked to be trolling, but were indeed jigging for Mack's and catching them in 240ft of water. Could see the white, bloated belly of the fish, floating on a stringer, outside of the boat.
We turned around, heading Southeast, to work the face of Mill Bay from depths of 80 to 120. Hooked a pike minnow on kokanee gear. Those things are as darkly colored as a Green lake Carp! Around 11:00 I hook and land a 14" trout on the pink crappie jig/corn combo. Same rod caught the pike minnow.
At 11:30 we switched over to Rapala lures, size J5 -7. Per rseas great success. We tried 16 ft of water out to 45foot depths. On the surface, and on the downriggers at 5, 10, 15, and 20ft of wire. Not a touch for 2 hours. That is fishing, and that is a rap for Chelan for the day.
