Well, technically the rating should only be a 2, but since the fish I caught was a PB Smallmouth at 3.35# it was well worth a 3 to me! Hit Lake Goodwin about 5:30pm and worked our way around the lake. Wind was an issue, but got to fish what we wanted, where we wanted for the most part. We tossed Senkos, cranks, swimbaits, jigs, topwaters and tubes. The big fish was caught on a tube.

Slowly but surely we learning the ropes on SMB.

How do you rig the tubes for smallies?

Same as I rig them for Largies; :-)

texas rigged with a blade weight inside using a extra wide gap offset worm hook, or small bullet weight, 1/32 to 1/8 oz, pegged on the line.

Or with a round head jig with the line tie either on the top or on the front of the lead head. Usually 1/8th oz. But can be smaller or larger depending on what you're doing and what the depth you're fishing is. The line tie on the top is kinda hard to get thru the weeds and brush.

Skunked: wish I could post pics in "comments". Basically in open water I use a weighted tube bait hook with 90 degree eye, and shove it up the tube of choice...poke the hook eye out the side of the tube and fish it with hook exposed by the tube "tentacles." "T" rigged if weedy.

Good number of ideas here: https://www.google.com/search?q=tube+bait+rigging&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=miPoU7rLOOOJjAKO24DwCw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1517&bih=714&dpr=0.9

Is Goodwin worth fishing from a boat with only a Small trolling motor ? If so any tips on where to fish?

Certainly! Start at the Wenberg County park boat ramp (Snoho County Park permit, or $7 in the fee box--It's no longer a State Park and Discover and Veh Access Pass won't work) and work your way North along the shore. Take a look at the Goodwin Map--premium member map has more detail--and work up to shallow, rocky area on the East side about 1/4 mile North of the launch ramp. Nice SMB in the lake, but they can be picky. Super clear water most of the time. Nice lake. For LMB take a look at the Docks on the South half. I motor all around it with my 30# thrust trolling motor in my 16' skiff...it just takes longer than if I drop the main!

If it's breezy go up the shore INTO the wind, to make sure you can get back to the launch if the wind picks up, or your battery starts getting tired!
