I used to fish a lot when I was a kid but haven't been in at least 18 years. I have been out a few times with my boys recently and decided to check out Silver Lake. Glad we did. We got on the lake at about 8:30am and it was like glass and peacefully quiet. We started trolling right from Henley's just beyond the buoy's using pop gear, me with a spoon, and my boy with a wedding ring. Within 10 minutes I had a fish on and it was a big one! It immediately jumped after I hooked it and I proceeded to reel it in. As it got close to the boat I could see that it was a big rainbow, I'd guess 3+ pounds, I say guess because as I got it close to the boat and my boy went to net it, he hit the line with the net and line line broke. grrr
So I put another spoon on my line and continue around the lake using the same method. 30 minutes later I hook into another one and once again the same thing happens. Both of these fish were at least 20 inches and fat. Unfortunately, I didn't have any more of those spoons. We trolled wedding rings for a while and I brought in two 10" stockers. It started getting windy and a few rain showers but we persisted. My boy brought in a 12 inch cat and a small perch so all in all we had a good day, but those two big ones that got away are haunting me.
I am going to stock up on those spoons and go give that lake another go.
