American Lake 6-30-14
Well you know the saying about best laid plans...that is what happened on June 30th when I planned on taking my grandkids and Kim (pinkpole) fishing at American Lake. When we were done fishing we would go fast with the big engine and give it a run that it needs.
We get everything together and all of us loaded and off we go. I think we got there around 9 or 9:30am. I get the boat in the water and then remember that the keys are on my desk at home. The first thought I had was to load the boat up again when the guy next to me said you have a kicker...Thank you for that! So we travel a little way and anchor (thank you Roger66). We get everyone out with worms. Now I have to control all the hooking and most unhooking because Kim (pinkpole) will not touch or look at worms. She says not even gummy worms! That means if the fish had worm in its mouth that was visible I had to unhook it. This means we caught fish!
My idea was to toss a worm out and let it sink and hopefully the rock bass, perch or whatever would bite and give the kids action. In this, my plan worked! There were plenty of bites and fish in the boat This might have been there first time with spinning rods for the kids because they reeled their own fish in. But the 6, 7, and 8 year old got bored and wanted to cast their little rods Cars, Dora, and Spiderman. There was a competition to see who could cast the farthest. The geese that swam by thought that they were going to get fed but soon realized that they were targets.
Kim was having problems hooking fish. She only got 2 perch but they were the biggest in the boat that day. They were the size to take home but it was a catch and release adventure.
So when it started to get windy I said we had better go because I have never loaded the boat in the wind. I rev up the kicker and we went back to the launch. The children were smiling and Kim was in the bow saying she liked just being there.
The fish finder didn’t work and I forgot the key but the boat really loads and unloads pretty easy. The main plan worked well and there were fish for the kids. We only stayed a couple hours.

We are in a battle! Angler against fish! We need an arsenal of weapons and at my site you will find some of those different weapons. For all those who wannafish a lure come in and take a look at WannafishALure.com.
