I decided to try and fish the south end of the lake today. Got to the launch and wow, the lake is breezy! Made my way past the state park swimming area and started fishing in that fresh looking lilly pads/cove.

First cast at 8:45AM.

Felt a couple of nips, but no real bites. And it stinks in that area. Looked like some sort of drainage system there. I wasted about 40 mins along that shoreline and docks.

I try to make my way up mid lake and the wind is just kicking my butt. Cant cast accurately. Cant get the right angles. Did my best with cranks and swimbait. There would be a slight break in between the wind and I will try dropshot or tube.

Managed my first SMB on a DS on a deep dock a little over an hour of fishing. A dink.

Then I caught a pretty big perch on a deep diving crank.

Moved across the lake to the other side to see if the hill would provide any cover. NOPE, same issue there. After about 15 mins or so, it seems to have died down a little bit. Graph is lit up with baitfish at about 20'. Betting perch and sure felt them. Saw a dead floating sunfish nearby.

Welp, that break from the wind didn't last. Tried to go with it, but blah. Was trying to decide to head home or not. Was trying to see if this day even deserves a 2, because technically, I did catch a SMB. But I kept going.

3 hours after my first cast, I was fan casting the swimbait towards the shore near a buoy and piling. Didn't feel the bite. Thought it was weeds due to the wind. Wait a second, it's fighting back, set the hook and it's a pretty nice SMB. ~17" @ 2lb 4oz.

I get to a point and start casting crank and swimbait and tried hopping a tube. Got a strike, but felt like perch.

Wind died down for a few mins and I caught a couple more dinks SMB on the DS.

So FF, did that bass have a messed up upper lip. Like he had a huge under bite? The reason I ask is because we were fishing near you, on the west side of the lake. I caught one the same size and it had a messed up upper lip. Caught it right near the area that you left. It had a recent hook mark. We found the fishing somewhat tough too. I think we ended up getting around 20, but there was no real pattern. Would just get one here, one there. Caught them on all sorts of stuff, just no real preference from them. We did get a few just over 3lbs but none of the better fish we had caught the past few weeks.

Hi JammerinHonkers. I didn't notice anyone fishing in front or behind me. Sorry if I cut you off. By any chance were there 2 of you fishing? Around that area, there was a guy out on his deck. He told me a couple of guys passed by earlier and caught quite a few. He stated he saw the fishes. It was right next to him that I caught the pictured fish. I don't remember upper lip being messed up. I don't inspect my fish. I usually don't even touch them, lol. Where they land in the net is how their picture is taken. I do remember a gash on it's left side, right behind the gill plate. You can barely make it out in the picture. In person, it was tender/red looking.

PS, it's a good thing I didn't pee out the side of the boat afterall.
