I went out to the lake this morning with a couple friends of mine and his son to catch some perch and peamouth chub that I figured would provide good action for the young boy who is 7. I was really praying I picked a good day to go fishing and that the boy would catch some perch and keep him interested in the adventure.
We stopped on the West side of the lake in an area that drops off from 20 to 47 feet. There are usually a good bunch of perch there of edible size. Today was no exception. Within a few minutes my friend Sean caught a small brown bullhead catfish of about 12 inches and my friend's son caught several nice perch that were providing great action. In about 2 hours time, we landed over 25 perch, 10 peamouth chub, 2 smallmouth bass and a large squawfish of about 3 lbs.
Needless to say, it was an absolute blast for my friend's son and all of us. We were very fortunate to have good action. To put the icing on the cake however, my friend's son hooked a large trout of about 19 inches or better with his little Zebco fishing rod. It peeled out drag and fought him for a while. It was a blast. It was one of the larger trout I've seen caught this year.
The best thing about the trip is that this little boy was so happy and thrilled and really enjoyed the trip to say the least. It's awesome making memories. This little man is on his way to being a fine fisherman.
I've attached some pictures of the day's catch. Making memories and stirring passion inside a young boy for the thrill of fishing is what it is all about!
