This was my first time fishing on lake Stevens, and there have been nice reports about the Kokanee there. By some minor miracle my morning was open, so off I went to try my luck with the Kokanee. My fishing time was 10:30am-2:30pm. I was armed with a downrigger and a couple of setups, assisted by other reports, and hit depths of 40-45', then 5' increments down to 90'. Setup#1) Pink speckled dodger and pink wedding ring- caught one 6" rainbow at 80'. I was wondering what that little guy was doing down so deep. Setup#2) pink tipped, silver dodger and pink hoochie - no bites. Now, if I did not have my fish finder, I would have thought the lake had no fish. Sorry dude. Most of the time, especially in water over 80' deep, the finder showed fish all over the place! Sometimes there were schools in the 40-45' range. Usually they were in the 60-80' range. So I tried adding shrimp oil, added a worm. Not sure what I was doing wrong. My Scotty lake troller downrigger makes a lot of hummmmm. Could that be the problem? I have never before seem so many fish on my finder, but went home without....?
Any helpful advice?

yes get to the lake before daylight and stop fishing at 10 am

Try using some white shoe peg corn with Kokanee DNA scent on the hooks.

Yes, use shoe peg corn marinated with kokanee feast scent. Also get a green wedding ring about 14" long, and a purple red head dick nite dodger. This time of the year the fish are deep, and the best bite has been later, like after 10:00. Stick with that. I have seen most leave before the bite really started. You can probably get a lot of small ones up higher early in the morning. The big ones tend to be deeper and thus a later bite. They are the spawners for this year. Keep your speed between .9 and 1.1, that seems to be the best range. Good luck out there.

Be sure the wedding ring and dodger are UV. When the fish are that deep, you really need to use UV gear so that it will be visible to the fish.

Sorry RL44 but I have had good luck after 10 the bite goes on and off others have great advice but you have to have white shoe peg corn for stevens worms dont work on this lake for me. Leader 12-18 inches long I go to the long side on spinner type rigs since they have there own action. 1.2-1.4 for me with 80-100 ft of water under the boat. 50/50 dodger, clown, pink splatter, green and pink, purple and pink, chartreuse. Gulp maggots sometimes works. Good luck

A lot of time with fish finders if you set the sonar to show fish symbols your downrigger balls will show as fish if you have the fish symbol turned on.
