I set the alarm to get up to go fishing at American but I went back to bed instead. When I got up I paid some bills and then decided I would go fishing at Clear Lake.
I pulled up behind Scraper and we talked for a while.
I started fishing about 11:30 after saying hi to the doc and Larry who were both trolling the same area.
I trolled at the depth doc said he had caught fish for about an hour with 2 lures. Then I changed it up after getting no bites. Which I kinda expected since it was the middle of the day. It also came to mind that this might be the boats first skunk.
I changed dodgers, lures, and depth. I went out deep, 80’s, and dropped the downrigger cable to 30 and 34 feet. At 12:45 I netted my first fish of the day. I went to get the bleeding bucket from the bow and then tripped on the other bucket and went down hard on my left knee.
Last Sunday I injured this same knee falling too. I could barely get up. The fish was still in the net. I took care of that after putting the motor in neutral. I was hobbling around trying to ease the pain. Well, I thought about quitting but then my knee hurt bad enough I wondered if I could get out of the boat. Therefore, I kept fishing. Trolling around in the 60’s to 80’s feet of water. Moving the riggers between 20 and 35 feet down. Went back and forth without any hits and it is getting hot. This is some Indian summer we are having. The water was 65 when I started and 68 when I stopped. I thought to myself that I would troll over yonder and if I don’t get a fish I will quit. I got a fish and when I got up to bring it in my knee hurt and I didn’t want to turn to get the net since it was small. I was about to lob it into the boat when it came off. It was almost 2pm and I needed to leave. It was hot and my knee hurt. I was able to make it out of the boat and load it up to go home.

The fish were caught on a Dick Nite watermelon dodger and a lure I am trying out. Something like a Gilded Lily but I think I will call it 50/50. No skunk for Ol’ Girl.
One note, the fish I caught was very close to 11 inches and it was next years class fish! Next year might just be a good year.
