First, I’d like to thank DjButler and G-Man for providing some online motivation to get out and give the lake a try. And as luck would have it, the stars aligned right and I was able to get an open window to fish this evening. Evenings are usually tougher than mornings but you can catch fish so with that in mind JoAnn and I headed over to Magnuson Park and had lines in the water by 4pm.

I started off with a plug on one rod at 50 feet and flasher/squid/shrimp on the other at 60-70 feet (chasing meter marks). Troll speed 1.7-2.2mph. We started at Hunt’s Point. My plan was to troll with the wind down to Moss Bay and just see what the schools looked like.

Within minutes we had our first fish in the boat, on the plug. But not a coho, this was a chunky 18” rainbow. Not a bad start I thought. Continued on and not long after got another rainbow, this one a solid 19” on the same plug. I gotta say, Lake Washington puts out some beautiful fish!

Munching down our KFC dinner, we had gotten down to Moss Bay. Out of the corner of my eye I see the plug rod again start to dance and this time release to a big fish. No more rainbows, this one was a blushing 8-9 pound hook nose silver. Yes! Into the cooler he went. By this time I had switched both rods to plugs. It was also starting to get dark, so we called it a night at 6:30 and raced back to the launch. Winds were kicking up a bit as the evening forecast for rain coming appeared true.

We marked a pretty good amount of fish between Hunt’s Point and Moss Bay, both in that 80 foot contour and also out deeper, 120-150 feet deep. Even though it was only 2 ½ hours of fishing, it was still well worth it and very nice to get out for our last fishing trip of the year. The big boat gets put into storage until spring and JoAnn is strictly a “cuddy cabin” fishergal. But I’ll be hitting the rivers at least a few times later in October.

Nice Really Enjoyed Your Report ! My Retired Fishing buddy had a 12 ft Livingston and 9.9 Yamaha and wants to hit Lake Washington from I90 to the 520 bridge ! I have a new 20 Horse yamaha and need to break in the motor and might spend a day on Lake Washington this is really motivating see your pix weather permitting ! truely Appreciated!! Nice Fish!! FISH ON!!

Only wishing for more fishing... :-) I'm not sure why I got away from this fishery, guess we just have too many options, LOL. Toni, your boat would be perfect. KiIDKOKANEE, I'd stick above the 520 in that area along Kirkland. There used to be a tiny boat launch in Kirkland but I think it is now only for residents, little one lane thing right there at Moss Bay. Would be perfect for your boat. We had originally planned to run down from Kenmore, glad I skipped that idea, it was pretty windy and dark when we got in.

Not to be secretive, well maybe a little. Maglip, size medium, color - wait for the video. :-)
I personally would be running standard colors, say green with a pink tail, just saying.

Wow nice fish Mike! It is amazing that we can catch fish like that right here in Lake Washington. Do you run those plugs straight or behind a flasher?

Sorry Mike, maybe I shouldn't have asked on the plug. I had just been directed to a couple plugs by a OE guy.
Plugs in the lake is new to me. At least in this lake.
Hitting the launch in a few minutes.

Were you running diving plugs on DR or 50ft of line out straight back?

50 ft back off the downrigger. I don't mind sharing, I hope people can get out and catch a few. Btw, no need to pile up in front of Moss Bay, the fish are all over. If you are targeting depth contours that 80 ft line runs for several miles in that area. Do yourself a favor and fish where others ain't. Less pressure equals more fish!
