Thought I would give the Potholes a shot as there has been good reports. Launched Sunday morning and had the first 3 walleyes trolling up the Lind coulee/wasteway. Things went quiet for a very long time and I had moved out into the lake when I hooked a carp. After letting it tow the boat for a while, finally landed him - foul hooked on the top of his back, I was back trolling. Chatted with a woman fishing who said she had never seen anything but small walleyes. She did have a nice mess of perch on her stringer. Just after our chat, bam, one rod took off and made me think the carp was back for seconds. Finally got the fish up to the boat and found a monster eye on my line. Challenging getting him in the net with his size but accomplished that and found the line to the trailing double whammy hook had just broken and he was in just the net! Whew!. Weighed him at 7lb 10 oz and length of 26 1/2. I have caught longer eyes, but I think this was possibly the heaviest. He was just so thick. Anyway, made for a nice finish that day. Launched Monday, found perch, but couldn't buy a walleye in that particular area so settled for a nice mess of perch that made for a great meal once back home. Mosquitoes at the launch in the afternoon/evening are absolutely ferocious. Take a large can of repellent! Bottom walkers with chartreuse double whammies were the primary tackle. Took the carp with a perch color shadrap.
