Same ol' same ol'... Just a great fishery going on at Green Lake! Arrived at the lake at 6:45 AM, fishing the northeast shoreline. Temp at the outset was 44 degrees, not a breeze. Water temp at the shoreline was 50 degrees. Started with fl. orange Power Eggs on both rigs, one a 3' leader, the other at 4'. Ten minutes in, one rod starts the old familiar dance... while reeling in the first fish, the other rod goes off... first double in a long time! Introduce the first fish to the priest, then reel in the second. Two fish in the first fifteen minutes! Hook broke off on the second fish, so cast out the first rig while tying on the hook... wham... third fish hits and have to drop my project and reel in the third. Now back to fishing with both rigs, land two more fish before 8:00, then a lull as the sun is rising higher. Began to experiment with different colors of PE, tried a light green Power Dough... two more fish on that by 9:30. Again, a lull, then tried chartreuse PE, caught three more on that, and rounded out my limit by 11:00. Pretty much non-stop action, lots and lots of hits on the PE, but few hook-ups... fish are biting lightly right now.
Fish are really gaining some size now. Smallest was one at 12", two at 15" and the rest are all at or near 14". They really put up a great fight reeling them in, several leaping out of the water multiple times before bringing them to the net.
Sad to see multiple carcasses of smaller fish that some have "released" to try for larger fish. Regs are very plain, when using bait, every fish caught counts towards the limit, whether released or kept. Saw several other fishermen in my vicinity, some doing well, some not so...
Filleted out the two largest fish, beautiful pink to red flesh! Will load up the smoker this week with the others! Going to be some terrific fishing at Green Lake through the winter, if one can weather the weather! PTL!
