I will preface this report by saying that if you read whorde's report for 11/29, that basically sums up my report as well since we fished together that day. I did however want to put my own report up with a couple of thoughts and pictures.

We spent basically the entire day fishing, and here are my observations for the day.

1. We should have gotten there earlier. The bite was the best in the morning, and if we had been on top of our game we could have been there at least an hour earlier with good early morning light to fish. I had never been to the lake before though, and we both ended up getting lost driving to the trail head.....it happens.

2. First cast matters! I think it was on whorde's very first cast of the day (first cast for either of us) that he caught his first fish. Now, this doesn't ALWAYS happen, but it didn't surprise me at all that it did. Just think about how many times you get to a new spot (or less commonly tie on a new lure) and boom, first cast fish on! Or at least within a few casts at a new spot or with a new lure you get a fish. After seeing this so many times, I am convinced it isn't luck. It is simply that there is an aggressive fish around, you get that first cast and it nails your offering. Or, you switch up your gear and it is what the fish want to see and they nail it right away.

3. For this lake, go big and bright with lures. The water was very dark, so sticking with bigger lures in brighter colors (orange and gold combos seemed to work well) was the best. I got my one fish of the day on a size 3 orange Vibrax with a gold blade. I think I had another hit with that lure, and also had a hit on a 1/4oz gold and crimson Kastmaster.

4. For bait, worms are ok, salmon eggs need not apply.

Even though fishing was slow, it was a very nice day out with some great scenery and not to mention the best tasting Cutthroat I have ever eaten hands down. No color editing in the picture of the fillets.

That really makes we wish I could try this lake.

Awesome. I'm really glad you got a good one. Especially given the number of casts you took where they wouldn't give you the time of day!

Heatherly - can you walk 3 miles, twice, starting the day with a steep up hill, in 1 day? That, and having 1 day you can set aside to do it, are the only things required.
