The day started out like a normal fishing day. Up, showered and out the door by 6:00 am.
As I loaded gear into the boat I notice the "instrument" switch was left on from last fishing day
(which was about a month ago) So as you might guess dead battery. So stick the charger on and go back in the house.
Good news is I found a tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls in the fridge, hmmm... thirty minutes later and weighing in five pounds heavier I check on the battery. close enough to charged for me.
Off I go... Well to the gas station anyways. Okay, off again.
After a quick stop in St.John to grab a pack of smokes I arrive at Rock lake at about 9:30.Right on time.
I have only been to this lake twice before so it took me awhile to find a deep enough spot to get my boat off the trailer.
finally, 10:30 I'm on the water. ran to the north end of the lake by the inlet creek and just to the right of it I started trolling. Hook wasn't hardly wet and WAM, a nice 14" rainbow, throw back in and WAM, another and so on.
within thirty minutes of getting there I had my limit. four nice rainbows from 13" to 15" and a brown trout coming in at 18"

used a "Cabela's RealImage® HDS Forked-Tail Baitfish" in perch color it was about 3" long

moral of the story, fishins better with hot cinnamon rolls in your belly.

I sure would agree with the hot cinnamon rolls Tom. As for showering BEFORE going fishing.....not!

Love rock lake.

Started fishing it about 15 years ago. Back then, we could catch and release nearly 100 browns and bows casting roostertails into the shore. ( 2 fishermen better part of a winter day ) And maybe share the lake with 2 or 3 other boats.

Still one of my favorite lake, even now that the secret is out.

Yes, seems like a nice lake. especially since its only about twenty minutes from my house.
It does bother me though, a lot of the older guys around town seem plumb scared of it, our town building inspector was over tho my house
checking out my shop I just had built, He said I couldn't pay him enough to go on that lake in a boat, with
the basalt spears coming up close to the surface. just waiting to rip your boat in half. first few times out
I went real slow, constantly watching the depth finder. I stayed towards the middle of the lake as I made my way to the other end and
only found one spot pretty much dead center of the lake that went from 300' to 8' but that is the only spot i found. so now I have that route
entered into my fish finder and try and stay on that route. but would love some more info on the dangerous spots.
I did read in the spokesman review that there was a earth dam built that raised the water level three feet to help with this
but that is all I can find out about it.

Check out the trout forum for 12/28/14. I posted the information that will help you with Rock. Just use the information with wisdom, and save some of those trophy browns for the next guy. LOL
