tough day fishing, way too cold. (15 degrees) left the house way too late, didn't get to the lake until 2:00
then get to the north end of the lake and break the pull rope on my 7.5 horse. but had my minnkota for back up.
got a bite right out of the gate, get him to the boat and he lets go. noticed that the back treble hook is gone from my lure, hmm. it was there a minute ago. so switch out lures and back in business.
was able to get three 11" rainbows into the boat. ( dinner will be a little lite tonight.) but small fish in the boat is better than big fish not in the boat. it took about two hours to get those three. by that time was getting dark so I gave up.

So if I get all of this straight were you able to start the 7.5 for the trip back to the launch? This sounds like a small boat taken to the far end of the lake late in the day? Also sounds like you were by yourself? I'm not on a soap box but this dangerous business in the winter on Rock. Getting help is all but impossible. Just my concerns for a fellow Wlakes fishermen.

Be safe out there - Alan

Tom I just read your post in the forum asking questions about Rock. I see you have a decent boat with a 90 on it and I now understand the 7.5 is your kicker. I don't know where all the pinnacles are but I do know about the ones on the right going uplake from the launch right after the bare/slide area. There is a pine tree and the pinnacles are out there starting in front of it. Be very careful to stay in the middle of the lake and don't cut any corners when running up lake and back. I have fished Rock a lot and had some hairy boat rides in the process when the wind comes up unexpectedly. The 8.5 miles can be a LONG trip back from the inlet end. Life jackets are the order of the day but the cold water will get you quickly if you end up in it.
All of that said I like to fish at that end of the lake too. Redhead olive bunny leeches from Swedes fly shop trolled three colors deep on 18# leaded line with 60' fluorocarbon leader at 2 mph are a big winner for me. We turn all Browns over 3# loose (after a quick picture) to promote the natural spawn part of this fishery.

Tight lines - Alan
PS That's all part of the reason I mainly fish Roosevelt now; great boat launches, it's safer and has more plentiful bigger fish!
