A morning of tough fishing at Green Lake, in persistent, steady rain. Arrived at 6:30 AM, Pete joined me on the northeast shoreline about 15 minutes later. Already one fisherman stationed there. Temp at outset was 45 degrees, steady rain. Water temp at 49 degrees. Began with chartreuse Power Eggs on one rig, 2 1/2' leader, pink & white "Mice Tail" on other, 4' leader. Nothing in the dark, about 7:30, as beginning to lighten up, had a solid hit and reeled in my first, a 13 1/2" Rainbow (pink & white MT). Fifteen minutes later, another hit and reeled in my second, this a 12" er (chartreuse PE). In the next hour, had several hits, three more hook-ups, all of them spitting the hook on the way in... the biggest fish of the morning (a solid 16" er) spit the hook as I went to net it. Last fish of the morning came about 9:30, a twin to the first, 13 1/2" (chartreuse PE). A couple of subtle hits the rest of the morning, but no more hook-ups. Seems as though the bite tails of significantly as the day brightens up.
The other fisherman left about 10:00, having landed four fish, using Rainbow Power Bait (I tried the same, having no success on it). Pete had a tough morning, only a half dozen hits, but no fish. He left the lake at 11:00, having been soaked to the skin. I kept on until 12:30 and left to get home to my recovering wife. Still some beautiful fish left in Green Lake, but the bite in slow and one has to be persistent and patient to get 'em! PTL!
