Family business prevented my excursion to Lake Roosevelt this morning, but the boat was ready, bait ready, where to go? My go to Lake close to home is Eloika, let's try for LMB this afternoon. This lake is but 15 minutes from home base. Friend mentioned last week that there was still ice on Eloika but the launch and most of the lake is ice free. Got to the WDFW launch ramp just as another group was heading out to fish. Exchanged thoughts about target species ( they were searching German Brown Trout) I said LMB. Water level quite low at the ramp but had no problems dropping in. A quick check of the water temp at the ramp indicated 39 degrees.
Worked rage craws, senko's, Strike King Rodent, crawlers and curly tail grubs = no hits, no action, no followers. I was marking fish mostly just off the bottom and predominately in the main channel. Very few fish inside the 5' depth toward shore. I worked the East side from the launch to that portion of the lake (NE) that is still frozen. Then I proceeded to work the main channel various depths from 5 to 13'. It appears to me that about 20 percent of the lake in the NE corner is still iced in.
It was a great day to be outside, air temp was pleasant, the lake was extremely calm, and the serenading geese reminded us that spring is just around the corner.
