Smallmouth Bass

Fished tapps today after school for a couple hours. Used just about everything until I decided to start doing what I know best. Flipped a 3/8oz football head with a swimbait trailer tight up against structure in about 3-5 feet of water in the cove to the right of Tapps Island and across from Quiet Water. Water is still down a good 20 ft. Glad that what seemed to be a terrible day turned out being not too bad. Nice to get the jitters out. Best of luck

Just noticed I put smallmouth for species. Since I was fishing Tapps I was fishing for smallmouth but got lucky and hooked into a large!

Nice catch, hard to believe the water level being so low, was shocked when I saw some pics of the lake,...fish must be bunched up all over,..

I wonder how the extra drawdown will effect fishing once the lake opens to boaters again? Ive heard opinions both ways...

Way to go kid!! The lake is down nearly 40 feet..saw a report on king 5 last week. Homeowners are wondering why and how long. Cascade Water Alliance had some work done on Dike 4 and trying to finish the out flow fluke. Looks like they are a little behind and not much snow pack in the mountains so who knows how long before they fill it up again. They were supposed to start filling in March, I think..now this is just me, that fishing is gonna be bad this year. Especially if they do not get the lake filled by the end of April or May. 2 big pools holding what fish made it through the drawdown, it does not look good. Gonna screw with the (bass) spawning terribly. Also Nathan, keep your eyes open for law enforcement they were to arrest "trespassers" on a public lake..Good luck out there kid! Good bass!

Ya it'll be a definite tossup this year... Sadly. But it's hard for me to see Washigton Fish and Wildlife being okay with killing so many fish. Also, I know they drained it down this far once before about 10 years ago, but I'm too young to remember how the fishing was back then. Hopefully we have another great season

beautiful bass. been wanting to get out there but cascade owns the lake bed and to get to the water you have to trespass on the lake bed although it is not properly posted anywhere except their web site. I too hope the fish are able to bounce back after the draw down however I do not believe that WDFW really cares that much about the bass in washington even though it generates millions and contributes to conservation

Nice job! North Tapps County Park is still open for access to the lake. We were out there last weekend and hooked into an 18" smallie, so at least some of the fish are still there. The pools are the original lakes, before they built the dikes. Your bass (and ours) came from the original Kirtley Lake, slightly larger than the original but still the same lake.
