Drifted downwind without power while trolling worms,orange power-bait, DickNite, orange flatfish and spinner lures. Had some fun, especially on the 15". Lost a nice bow (16-17") on the third air jump, wasn't fast enough that time to stick the rod 4' underwater quick enough, shook it loose in the air... I'm gunning for 'im, next time, lol. Fun day till the boat with 5 people came by at 1/2 throttle, then went around the little island to give me 3' rollers from both sides- while I had the 15" on... Wish I could tell him he can be held liable for his wake... Tight-lines, Gary

I didn't know one could be held liable for there wake. I know the boating safety standard is you cannot pass within 200 feet of another boat. It seems that the water skiers on American don't know this. They always pass very close to my 17 ft boat and I have a Jon so sometimes it gets hairy. That being said, boaters should have a boat and motor big enough to handle the lake and conditions they are or potentially could be fishing in. I saw four individuals in a 5 foot tub in the middle of the lake and thought that was a bit not smart. I would recommend if your boat cannot handle the conditions found on a big lake you should, for safety, fish a smaller lake or get a bigger boat. Liability does you know good if you are dead. I just wish the skiers would give 200 feet so we have time to react to their wake. At times I can read the writing on their skis they are so close and with down riggers out....well we all know.someone invented life jackets, I think, for fisherman who fish near waterskiers, lol.

With the internet, it is easy to find relevant information;
"Controlling Your Wake
The wake created by a boat may endanger inexperienced boaters, persons swimming, or wading anglers. For example, a boat's wake may rock, swamp, or capsize other boats. Passengers also may be thrown off balance or overboard, leading to serious injury.
No matter how large or small your wake, you may be held responsible for any damage or personal injury it causes. To avoid the expense of repairing another person's boat or paying their medical bills, limit your wake by slowing down.

As you travel, look behind your vessel to check your wake. If it is rocking boats or crashing against the shoreline, you are creating too much wake.
Watch out for and be considerate of small vessels such as canoes and kayaks.
Slow down before:
Meeting and overtaking other boats
Entering posted speed zones and narrow channels
Leave as much space as possible between your vessel and others that you meet or overtake.

Unreasonable wakes also cause erosion of the shoreline, damaging important habitat."

My boat bobs like a cork in the waves, made from a Scandinavian design for use on the ocean; http://www.svensons.com/boat/?f=RowBoats/KingFisher/KingFisher1.jpg
My point was if in a 5MPH Zone (as he was) or 100' from a small boat, slow down. I agree, skiers (rather the drivers) are inconsiderate sometimes. Thanks for the reply, Gary
