Got my son up at 6am so we could be on the lake at 7. Got the gear in the water at 7, and right of the bat I started marking fish. The fishing was hot today and, but we did have our highs and lows. So first taker was 5ft 15 min in, took the gear before I could even get it in the clip. My son had the net in hand and before we could net it, lost it. It started off great then one fish after the other would come off at the boat before the net was in the water all good sizes and all at only 5ft. this went on for 6 fish till finally netted the first koke of the day about 13 inches and fat. So at this point we wanted one more and my son wanted one more. Just like his dad, doesn't want to give up. So we trucked on for another hour and a half and lost 3 more at the boat before the net got to the water. But we managed to get another in the net and as I set the net down half in the water to straiten out the motor, my son says.. Where's the fish dad? I had a good size hole in the net and he found it. So we were both bummed out and decided to drop the gear for one last go while trolling back to the dock when we picked up our second fish of the day. Redemption!! And I flung that thing in the boat without hesitation. 5ft was the magic depth and green was the magic color. Green always seems to do me good. Temperature on top water was a steady 51deg. I'll be out there soon to try again. I give this a 5 because I couldn't of had a better day out with my son on the lake. Fish On!

It was definitely one of the most eventful days fishing I've had in a while. I was glad to see my son had the fishing spirit like his dad. He got a taste of the tug drug! I was trolling at about 1.0 and 1.4. the faster speed seemed to trigger the bite for this particular day.

Good job dad. Lifelong memories. Had my 16 year old grandson on Chelan yesterday for kokes. The hoodie pic looked just like him at times.
Looking for ideas as to how everyone cooks these fish? Haven't fished for nor eaten them for over 70 years. All I can remember is mom flowering and pan frying. Seems like there should be a better way. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice catch! livingston12 my preferred method is grilled. Keep it simple - these are such good table fare you don't need to get fancy. I use a little Johnny's and pepper, grilled on foil on the top rack. Remove the mud meat and enjoy, maybe add a fresh lemon squeeze over the top or a little butter but that's it. Fry if you must but grilled is awesome!

a little bit of oil in the pan so it doesn't stick right away pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper on medium heat, and that's about it. I leave it on the pan a little longer so the meat gets a little crispy layer on the top. Then peal the skin and chow down!
