Hit the water for an afternoon of enjoyment. Got there around 12:30 or so and headed out to what the lake had to offer today. Saw a few memebers on the way out they were heading in and had got nothing so I knew it might be a tough day. Droped the lines and worked my normal route and not even one bite. I change things up many times and fished from 10 to 30 ft on the wire with two poles not even one takedown.

I took a few pictures of my new Lowrance elite 5 HDI and not sure what these are? I am used to hummingbird shows a fish so. I think there balls of fish but what kind?? IF you can help please chime in. This happens many times around the lake and streaks at my lures and weight all time so I assume its fish?

I wrapped it up around 6 and took a few laps around the lake to get use to how the new boat drives and charge up my batteries as my trolling motor does not do that.....hmm about the only thing I don't like about my new boat. Anyway I marked ton's of fish and they even came to my set up just not sure what the fish are??

Tight lines!!

Eric

Not sure what kind of prey they have in american lake but if I was to guess it looks like a ball of baitfish maybe minnows or even freshwater shrimp. The third pic looks like a baitball getting attacked by fish. Not 100% sure. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you more but from my experience that what it looks like

So the line a 40' is my ball right above that is my first line and at 19' you can see my second line. Not sure if this helps or not. I am not sure how to ajust this unit to make them more clear but I seem to find these balls of something around the lake and they shoot up from the bottom at the lines or ball and then go back down you can watch them on the screen. A week ago when this happened I got a RB trout almost every time. Last year I would find these balls of fish on my old hummingbird and it would just show a blob of fish and I could catch kokes when I went thru them or above them with my gear. What ever they are they move super fast.

I saw you yesterday . I was pulling out with a limit of rainbow as you were launching. I have the same issue reading my new Lorance 7. I saw those same blobs , would love to know what I am looking at

Hunter757 nice seeing you on the water! I made my Lowrance 5 show fish signs with the depth but the font is so little I can't see it from the kicker. While I was on American I hardly saw any fish. But at Alder I saw a lot.

I only saw one boat with nets out and it was a young boy with his father or? They seem to be catching RB not very far from me and that was the only boat I saw catch fish. Must of been a morning bite, oh well my chance will come I might have to make a trip to Meridan lake and see how my luck is there lol.

Those are probably balls of perch. American has a great population of them. The larger arch is a larger fish of some kind trout/bass??? The arch will be longer if the fish is swimming under the transducer because it's in the sonar come longer. The archs are more reliable that the fish symbols as the fish symbols tend to show a lot of stuff that are not fish like air bubbles and floating debree. Once you get used to them you will grow to like them better. Also try utilizing the 800 hertz downscan imaging on that unit it will give you a really clear picture but the fish will show more as dots than archs.

bassman72, I do use the 800 hertz its grey scale and I do see the white dots that are fish and when I see those balls of fish there the same full of dots. You might be right on the perch but did not know they ran in big groups like that. I wonder what young kokanne do? I sure hope it heats up soon can't wait for the fishing to go crazy.....

Looks like perch to me. They are slowly coming up off the bottom. The thermal clime is in the top 15 feet of water right now which is why we are all crushing rainbows on top. I think the jokes are up there too because I haven't seen them on the finder the past couple times out. I have an HD I 7 elite. It is great. Use arches on your fish finder stay away from fish symbols, they are not accurate. Kokanee look like spaghetti on the finder.
