Spent three nights at Mardon Resort on Potholes this week for Spring Break with my son. This was the first time either of us had been on the lake. The cold front got there before we did and made it a rough fishing trip. We fished Wednesday afternoon, about 9 hours on Thursday, and about 7 hours on Friday. Saturday was far too windy to safely be out on the water. We got first-timer advice from the tackle shop at Mardon and a very nice and knowledgeable resort worker gave us a lot of tips. We covered a lot of water in the south, Lind Coulee Arm, Crab Creek, and west arm, including both waste ways. The bass were in pre-spawn before the cold front from what we understood. Once the front hit, they were gone. We worked everything from cranks, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, worms, drop-shot, and everything else in the tackle boxes. We fished from 35 feet up to 3. My son landed one 2-lb smallie and that was it for the trip. Bad timing with the weather and inexperience on the lake both played a part. Although the fishing was bad, the time with my son was good as always. Mardon was very gracious and a good spot for fisherman. Tight lines everyone.
