Hit the lake with my new boat today but the skunk stayed on. Left the down riggers at home, and that I fell was a real mistake. But after reading the last few weeks reports of lots of fish caught on the flat. Got a few good hook ups but nothing to the net. Speed was all over learning the new equipment. Used swing blades, Wedding rings, Flatfish, Panther Martins, Dick nights... nothing worked really well.

What speeds do you troll lakes at?

Not sure if you are the person I spoke with in the parking lot today. I had 9 fish today and had lots of bites trolling. I have this long blade gear I had in the trout box for years and it consistently out fish my wedding ring today. I had about 2/12 feet of leader with a worm behind it and trolled in my sled at different speeds and got some nice trout in few hours I was at Goodwin. We should get out sometime and chse those trout. I also saw a couple of old guys having great luck on power bait still fishing.

1.5-2.0mph. The top water fishery will soon slow down, and still fishing with power bait will be better. When the water warms up you will want to troll deeper.
