Went out to nine mile campground to fish for pike. Had no bites then I went out abit in the bay and saw the pike spawning. There was one giant female and about 5 smaller males swarming her and chasing her around right in front of me. It was kinda cool, never seen anything like that before. So I figured the pike won't bite since they're busy and I went out just around the corner out the bay towards the dam to fish for the triploids. Caught several right away on a rapala shad rap bright yellow and red I think the color is called "hot tiger". Anyways I decided to switch to a crawdad lure I knew the triploids like in the Columbia and that was the lure to use, I had bites almost instantly and caught squawfish, smallmouth, trout, and even 2 walleyes which I never caught there before or heard of other ppl catching. So the pike should start biting again in alittle bit gonna have to wait.

Spawning pike in Long Lake! That brings a tear of joy to my eye.
YA BABY!!
Long Lake has the ability to become one of the finest fisheries in the state if not the whole country if left alone.
Large mouth bass, small mouth bass, trout, walleye, pike, perch, crappie, catfish, carp, squaw fish (that's right I said squaw fish), whitefish, you name it this lake has it. We can only hope the WDFW will leave this lake along and let it flourish like it can.

Thanks for the report, I hope the walleyes get a good spawn off in the next couple of years. I think it would be awesome if it happens.

I'm in complete agreement AJ's dad.Leave the damn lake alone ,it will find it's natural balance and become a great all round fishery,if it isn't already. There is no other lake in this area or indeed any other that has the range of fish Long Lake has.Incidentally,I also have been catching quite a few walleyes lately.Just finished having one for dinner.

I'm in a 15' canoe powered by a trolling motor, i've been wanting to spend time at Long lake to enjoy all the species it has to offer but i'm concerned the water may flow too quickly to enjoy myself. Is there areas/times to stay away? Where are the better places to put in?

thx for the post and any incoming information.
