I always fish shallow this time of year. I also might fish deep, or mid depths, depending if I feel like it any given day. The Bass are getting ready to spawn, spawning, and post spawn for the next month, so they can be anywhere from 1 foot to 20 foot depending on the lake. Sawyer I'd start at shallow docks and shorelines, inside weed lines. With the typical bottom lures, jigs, worms, etc. Shallow crankbaits, rattle traps over the weeds-expecially if it's windy. Mid depth crankbaits, and try deep diving crankbaits and dropshot off the outside weedlines. It can be slow as they might not want to bite, take a few seconds of deadsticking the worm to give them a chance to decide to come over and grab it. I don't hunt nests, but it there is a big fish on it, I can't help but fish it most of the time. Some people just run their boat all around the lake between the docks and only cast if they see a bed, you can see them weave in and out without fishing, don't be that way, there will be other fish along the way. Last spring I was fishing along and one guy came thru bed hunting. He cast once or twice and got nothing. We passed each other as we were going in opposite directions. He didn't have a fish at that time. The next 4 or so docks I caught 3 fish behind him, one was 3 plus pounds. Just fish and have fun.

Nice, I think I will finally go in the morning, I have been moving over the last week, so not too much fishing getting ready for the move either. I still haven't caught a smallie yet this year. I have hardly been out though!

Thanks for the info and great report. I just moved to the area from Missouri and have not fished Sawyer yet. I live right up the road. Is there any particular color that the locals like to use? I'm gonna try and get out with my son this weekend. thanks

All colors are great, if it's green, or pumpkin. :-)


Well those are great and I use those colors the most, but browns work as well. i don't get crazy with red, but they can work too. Talking about worms, and crankbaits.

Spinnerbaits I like black, white, green, yellow, and combos of these. I most always use a trailer, and it's a grub, and it's always white, regardless of the color of the spinnerbait. But skinny spinnerbait worms, and those flappy things I bought at Limit Out Marine the other week are suppose to work.

Top water of course, in white, black, green with spotty yellow-like a frog.
