I had a great time at the Northwest Fishing Reports gathering at Lake Chelan this year! Thank you for the effort. Here is a breakdown of the fishing.

Friday morning my fishing buddy and neighbor Nancy and I headed out at first light. We headed over to Minneapolis Beach and trolled for a while with little luck. We picked up one Koke and one Laker. We moved over to the Yacht club and didn't get anything. After a while the ADD kicked in so we headed over to the Ledge and picked up 14 nice sized Lakers. The rest of the afternoon was spent cleaning fish...

Saturday morning we headed out a little bit before daylight and had a little better luck. We ended the day with 10 kokes and 1 laker. The key lures for me was a pink micro hoochie with a glow in the dark head and a Mack's Lure pink wedding ring. Nancy used a Red Wedding ring. (Mack's and some that she made on her own). After 10am there were no bites to be had. I switched over to a FWG (Fishing with Gary) dodger and matching lure. Glow white. I charged the glow with a glow box, added corn and put the last 4 fish of the day in the box. Gary came through for me that day...

Sunday... Oh Sunday. Why wasn't Sunday the day of the BBQ so I could show off better pictures? Ha! Sunday was... EPIC. It was the best day on Chelan to date. Nancy and I have picked up many fish from Chelan and even stayed for a week of fishing at a time but nothing compared to Sunday. The stars were all in the right place that day. We went to the yacht club area and started trolling at first light. There wasn't anyone else even around when we started. (I think everyone was up partying the night before because the ramp was slow).

We started getting gear out and on the down rigger. I had a koke before I could even get the second line out. I brought that in and put the second line out. Bam. Same thing. Then Nancy had one. After that we were finally able to get all four poles out. Bam. A double. Then a tripple. It was crazy. We had about a 15 minute break when all of the sudden Nancy's pole hits. (Hard) She looks at me and says a couple of choice words... then "Mike, I think it is a King. She fought this fish for several runs and it took line like crazy. She had more than 300 feet of line out at one time. I brought in two Kokanee while trying to clear the lines so she wouldn't get tangled. I got the big net then got out on the off shore platform and netted her 10 pound King! What a ride. We hooted and hollered and took some pics then started getting lines back out. For about 30 more minutes we trolled. We picked up a couple more kokes and then it happened again. This time it was me and I brought in a nice 8 pound king. Absolutely crazy.

By 8am we had 2 kings and about 16 kokes in the box. Truly awesome. Nancy started to filet the fish on the boat at the cleaning board. During that timeI tried everything you could imagine to try to get the last few fish to get our limit of 20. We finally got the last one at around noon. The last ones were tough but the Kokabow/Heavy Beads lure (demo) helped bring them in. (Thank you)

After three days we were exhausted and headed back to Bellingham. We had 30-40 pounds of fish filet's in the cooler. Nancy and I won the Ken Onion Knife Sharpener at the raffle (from Work Sharp). We got lot's of cool samples and give aways. Met some really nice people and had the best fishing day on Chelan ever.

Thanks to Mike and his crew! We had a blast. I posted a thank you on the Gathering RSVP post.

Hope to see you all again next year. Mike Carey, if you ever want to fish Lake Whatcom or Lake Samish for Kokes let me know. I would enjoy taking you out...

Thanks again!

Yahoooooo you guys!! Way to go. It was a great evening spent with you and Nancy at dinner Saturday night. I got to see the pile of lakers you were cleaning on Friday PM; what a pile of fish.

We opted to go up lake Sunday....rats! Should have gone the other way, guess that's fishing.

Definitely should have gotten the lottery tickets Bogey! What are the odds of catching two kings during the same trip? Much less the same day, 30 minutes apart. Then add 20 kokes. The funny part was watching us carefully bring in all of the fish prior to the king. Once it was on the hook I was reeling them in fast and flipping them in the boat with no net to clear the way. Wish I had that on video...

It was nice getting a chance to meet all of you at the table. Thanks for the salmon Barry. (no pun intended) We will be back for next years event as well.
