I was at the launch by 6am (first in the lot) and anchored, fishing by 6:30am. It was cloudy with a drizzle that later changed to rain.
I anchored in 50 foot of water on the south side of the lake in line with the cove. Threw out the chum and sat waiting. I waited some more.
After a half hour I was thinking maybe I should move. Little bit more time goes by and I start thinking maybe I should start trolling. No bites. Uhm. Born2fish goes by and he says he got 2 right out of the launch.
More thoughts; maybe I should give up still fishing. The cost of the chum is more than trolling gas. Wait was that a bite? I think it was. Strip out a little line. Bounce the rod a bit. YES that was a bite. Ron was right about them hitting it soft. Hard to see the tip move in the rain. Next downward motion, no matter how small, I am going to jerk, HARD. There it is; I got it! Throw out a spoon full of chum then unhook the fish. I have got to try to get the other rod out as quick as I can. It was already to go. Another bite. Missed. Come back fish… Nope. Reel up and send the other rod that is baited, out. They are about 25-30 foot down. Find the area again and there’s the bite. JERK!! Fish on and in the boat. BAM, BAM, BAM. Done with a limit in a half hour. But I had to wait an hour before it happened. Well, maybe I will keep still fishing.
The water temperature has gone down a degree since Sunday when I was last out. It is 62. I also notice that the water level of the lake seems lower than I remember it to be at the beginning of fishing season in years past.

Hey Toni - Ever tried just plain old rolled oats soaked in water for an attractant. That's how my dad did it for years and it worked great. Cheap too.

Chicken egg mash & oyster shells for chum. Use maggot & red egg & strip line slowly up from the bottom. Lots of "silvers" caught with this method over the years. Clear lake included.

Downriggera; someone uses oatmeal. I caught a trout and took it home, cleaned it. It was full of oatmeal. It stunk so bad I threw the fish away. It might of been ok but I could not bring myself to.
Coyoteking; I have to buy chicken eggs and I use Oyster shells, maggots and Pauktze red eggs. I also do exactly what you said.

In the long run I probably only used half of the chum that I made up for the day. I do not know why it took me or the kokanee so long to get 5 in my boat. I didn't have a bite for an hour. Also in comparison of chum vs. trolling gas. My 6hp Yamaha doesn't use much gas.

a spring bobber at the tip of your rod may help in seeing more bites. for ice fishing i use a small zip-tie that i pull the zipper out of, and then zip-tie that to the tip of the rod, then i run my line through the hole i left after pulling the zip out. you can see the fish pick up your bait, and the tiniest of bites. you can buy spring bobbers too
