Fished the Derby on Lake Stevens on Saturday. With the weather and pressure the fishing wasn't hot but I had good action. I fished 4 rods and depths from 10 ft to 30ft and dropped down as the day progressed. Fish with my Girls(my lucky charms) and they had a blast reeling in fish ended the day with 24 fish with the biggest at 14.25 inches long. They sure are small this year. What a fun day with my family and friends in there boats on the water. I want to put a shot out to all the sponsors of the Derby Thanks for putting on such a fun event.

Great day! I have a question and I hope you can help or the other readers. I have tried both the scotty and cannon releases and no matter how may ways I try, I can not get the Kokanee to pull the line out of the clip. any words of wisdom?

cobrar543, most kokanee won't pull the line from the clip. When the fish get around 15 to 17 inches then they will. The trick is not to put your line so deep into the clip but deep enough that it will hold your line when trolling. You have to play with it and find out works best for you also with the scotty mini there is a adjustment make sure you have it in the less holding.

Yes as Hunter 757 has mentioned. I really like the mini scotty release clips. When I put it in the clip I center the line with the black dot on the clip in the middle of the green pads. I have had some small 8 inch fish pull it out of the clip no problem. I grab the rod and reel down to the clip and in a gentle but swift motion I pull up on the rod to release it with out jerking it from the release. That is so I dont pull the hooks out of the mouth of the fish. The black dot (center of clip) is my starting point then if I need less I adjust my line out in tiny bits or in for more. I hope that helps.

Idstud, great job pics are perfect! That is the same place I start as well the black dot, sometimes I will take the bottom half of the line and pull it out part way but only the bottom half but sometime it makes it to soft and you have false releases. Just play around with it and you will find what works on your boat Cobrar543.
