After having an absolute blast my last trip, limited in less than 1 hr, to Riffe Lake I was eager to return and try my luck again. I launched my kayak shortly after 7 AM on the east end of the lake. The water was like glass and I decided to try something different than I did last time. After no hits for 30 minutes the first hint of westerly breeze appeared so I decided to switch back to what I used previously, a Yakima Bait Fast Limit dodger and a uv green microhoochie from Paulina Peak, before the winds picked up. A few minutes later I nailed my first first of the day a 15" rainbow. It took a little work to find the bigger fish today but I managed to scratch out a limit of 4 additional coho averaging 15" by 10 AM.

I was finding most fish shallow between 5 and 15' down using a 1/2 at 70' back or no weight at 80-100'. Troll speed was between 1.2 and 1.7 mph. I got most of the strikes on the underwater camera. I am hoping to put together a video compiling this footage and discussing some important takeaways to help out my fellow land-locked salmon fisherman. Be sure and subscribe to my Spilt Milt Productions YouTube channel to stay up to date with my videos.

Met a lot of great and friendly folks out there today.

About 1 in 5 have parasites. Its actually pretty easy to detect those with parasites without killing them as they have distended softer bellies so you could always release those if you wanted. As it doesn't affect the meat quality of the fish and doesn't pose a threat to me I just keep them.

Are a "coon" shrimp and a "salad" shrimp one and the same?

Different species of shrimp but I doubt the Coho care.

PacificAngler - The key to this fishery is depth and bait. There are large numbers of smaller fish that tend to run shallower than than the larger fish. Also I found shrimp to be the best bait on this lake rather than corn.
