Spent most of last week at Banks targeting walleye and bass and hoping for some , whitefish and burbot. Banks is full to the brim and they are still pumping in lots of water. Water temps at the north end were in the low to mid 50's. At the south end they were in the hi 50's with an occasional 60 in shallow water.
I saw no sign of bass beds anywhere we looked.
We did see about a million carp having wild sex in the shallows though.
When we checked in with the folks at Coolie Playland last Monday, they said bass and walleye fishing was off the charts everywhere. You couldnt put a line in the water without catching monster fish.
Well, not so much.
We fished the north end, all around Steamboat rock, barker flats, Osborne Bay, many of the smaller bays all over, the million dollar mile area and the south end of the lake. Lots of dinks - walleye and bass - but keepers were few and far between. It was the same for everyone we talked to every where we went. Very few keepers of anything. Actually, we didnt even catch as many dinks this year as last.
The lake was beautiful as always and the weather was great, so we still had a good time.
Oh, we did catch out first white fish while trolling for walleye on the south end of Steamboat Rock. It was just under 3# and put up a nice fight. We all liked the mild flavor and it wasnt boney at all. Over all a good fish species to target.
