This wasn't really a fishing trip. It was more of a picnic, with a bonus of fishing.
We decided to go have a picnic at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island.
Of course being close to the water, I suggested we bring a couple of fishing rods with us and fish a bit.
I brought a DS rod and a swimbait rod.
We ate on the wooden dock. Fish a little bit in between chewing. No action at all after about 30 mins.
We went for a little walk to the concrete dock. I see several fishermen and women scattered.
We pick a spot and I get a few light machine gun taps on the DS. After about 10 mins she gets fish on with the swimbait. It's a tiny little guy, but a fish is a fish. Looks like a rock bass to me, or maybe warmouth?
About 5-10 mins later, she gets another hookup. But it comes off halfway. Looked like another little rock bass, but hard to say for sure.
Moving around the dock, I get myself a rock bass too.
I move along the dock and pitch the DS to a high probability spot. As soon as the weight hit the bottom, I see my line swimming underneath the dock. Set the hook and I'm getting drag rips. WOOT!
A quick flash and see it's a decent SMB. The wife was mad jelly. Moved around so I could get as close to the water as possible. Lipped it and secured the fish. Guessing a 16" @ under 2#s.
I didn't realize the picture was so crappy. I didn't take it. A couple of little kids were in ahhh, a fishy!
I caught 2 more rock bass and 1 perch. Nothing else for my partner.
Not a bad day to spend outside for a couple of hours.
