This is a report for the Heart Lake in Anacortes. We decided to head out for the derby this morning. Our kids cousins were going to be there fishing in another boat, so they wanted to go too. It was a nice day. Just a very light breeze with a hint of fog in the morning that burned off quickly. Otherwise, it was a nice hot day. The kids had fun for the most part, but we had to persuade them to get their limit. We started at 7am and was done by 9am. They then wanted to head to shore to play and have some food. We weighed in the fish for both of our boys and started putting stuff away, but I noticed the long line of people waiting to go out on boats so I asked if I could help out. I was able to take two groups out before it was time for the weight in. Both groups seem to have fun just being out there. The first group got a few hits, but nothing to the boat. Mostly just getting caught up in grass. The second group was a young family. We made it one time around the lake and had a big takedown. It was the oldest son that grabbed the rod and reeled the fish in. I didn't see the actual weight of the fish when it was weighted in, but guessing between 1 3/4 lbs - 2 lbs range. He was very happy. We set everything back and got one more hit, but it didn't stick. By then it was time for the weight in and we headed back in. The groups involved with this event seem to do a great job at putting everything together and handling everything. This might just end up being a regular event for us in the future.
