Pulled out the smoker I got for Christmas, finally but needed some fish to experiment with. We went back to Spencer since it was pretty good last time. The fishing was outstanding. We forgot the worms and didn't realize it until we were on the water so instead we trolled small panther martins in brass, dicknights, and superdupers right off bottom. Between the 2 of us we got around 60 to the boat plus a 2lb largemouth I got on the bottom in the middle of the lake. It was crazy, almost bothersome cuz you couldn't even stop to eat or drink before your pole was getting hammered again LOL. Almost lost my pole a few times. Lots of big fish. At least a third of them were 14" or close, most around 12". Strange thing though, when I cleaned the fish I wondered what the bigger fish were eating so I whacked the stomach open and to my surprise I found them loaded with..........1" pinecones. Strange but true. Are these fish starving? Sure seemed like it the way they stood in line to be caught. And they smoked up great for my first try.
