whats up man. i am a local resident of the lake and fish for cuts and bows almost all winter. (well, when i am not traveling for sports or in school). i am just getting into spring and summer trout on the lake, because during the summer i fish for perch the most (just for the kick) as well as bass and other panfish. the great thing about sammamish is the trout fishing can go from zero to top notch in about 2 minutes. often times it is the case that you will troll around in search of a trout bite, and you will catch a couple kokanee, but upon resetting and a depth change of half a foot maybe you will be in the middle of a trout frenzy. most of the time when i troll, when a pole gets a strike, i double up quite quickly. record is 8 trout in a 40-50 minute span with a couple of kokanee mixed in at the end. so back to your question, it is quite possible to catch trout from a dock on Sammamish, especially at the north end. great casting places down there to find a hidden rainbow, however, fishing for trout is quite a bit easier out of a boat. you don't need much of a boat though. i slayed this winter out of my boat, which is an old sears 12 foot aluminum. as long as it is calm, the 12 foot is the greatest thing ever for Sammamish, because it can go places the big boats can't, as well as it can be powered very easily with an electric motor, allowing me to fish closer to the boat while still maintaining the same amount of stealth. also, transportation is a lot easier. top of the car, bed of the truck, small trailer, you are fishing in 15 mins with no boat tuneups or other maintenance hassles to worry about while you are out on the water. good boats go on craigslist (where i got mine) for the $400 range bare bones, with the occasional steal. my first one was $1000, but i sold it and made my money back through buying and selling other boats. my new-old boat was $600, but came with two giant marine batteries, electric motor, seats, wheels, and extra tackle boxes. i might be coming across one here soon which i would be totally willing to sell to you if you are interested. or if you just want to get out on the water sometime and catch a few fish, give me a text or a call and hop in the boat with me. there is always coffee and food. :) good luck man and let me know when you are around the lake and we can maybe meet up and do a little fishing.
