Fished lake Whatcom for a few hours Tuesday afternoon.had real good luck around 25 to 50 ft for kokanee dad cought 3 kokanee around 25 ft , the thing is that we have to release cutthroat and the last couple times out picked up some really nice cuts and the cutthroat fishing has been closed in lake Whatcom for some years, due to low population, witch I don't feel is really true! the cutthroat in lake Whatcom seem to me to be thriving . I think we need the to take a look and see that the cut population is doing really well. it is also constaintley being fed from mirror lake witch is coming from the middlefork of the nooksack and there is a lot of cuts in there and probably make there way down to the lake. At least there needs to be a 14 inch minimum mabe two a day limit. I think the population would increase if the cutthroat where thinned out a little. I have caught and released some really fat and healthy fish. the fish finder lights right up in lake Whatcom all the way to around 150 ft and deeper . the cutthroats seem to be too thick if anything. freshwater lice seem to be on the fish but 80 percent of them don't have it seems to be predominantly on the kokanee. I feel we need to change the rules and put a limit on the cuts. to better the population.

Sounds like what they did to Crescent lake in Clallam county.Hired a biologist to stand on a dock and say"I don't see any fish, population must be low. they cut it to c&r selective. The lake has never had much pressure and is still clean and unpolluted,Due to low nitrogen content you can see bottom in 30 feet of water. The lake is filled to overflowing with natural feed and there are more fish in the lake than there were 1000 years ago.It wouldn't harm the population of Whatcom lake to allow the retention of 2 fish a day but our fishery is run by the tribes and green party politics.
Sorry about the rant,Glad you caught some fish and hopefully had an enjoyable day.
